Since Reignhead opened in 1989, it’s leaders, staff, families and community have worked hard together to create the warm, welcoming and successful school that it is today. The enthusiastic staff and governors provide a range of skills and talents that enrich the wide and varied curriculum experiences that are offered to the children.  Our curriculum is based on strong teaching in the core subjects, enriched with a tapestry of creativity and exciting learning opportunities both within and out of the school day. Assessment for Learning underpins all our work, and a systematic pupil progress tracking system supports personalised learning.  The overall aim of the school is to provide ongoing learning opportunities that involve the whole school community and ensure – “Success for All”

The School is situated in Beighton, approximately 8 miles to the South East of Sheffield City Centre and close to the boundaries of Rotherham and Derbyshire. By car the school is approximately 20 minutes from Sheffield City Centre and ten minutes from Junction 31 of the M1.

The school was built in 1989 to meet a rise in pupil numbers in the Sheffield area.  It is an open plan designed school, having 7 open plan teaching bases and an integral Foundation 1 and Foundation 2 Unit.

Each Base is able to accommodate two classes with two teachers working in a team teaching situation.  However some bases now only have one class due to falling pupil numbers.  We have a team of teaching assistants who support Teaching and Learning throughout school.  There is a Central Hall, a dual purpose dining teaching area, two home studies areas, an ICT suite and a library area.

The school was designed for disabled access, and was built on existing playing fields and therefore has substantial areas for outdoor play.  We are currently planning to further improve our outdoor play area, to enable us to extend our curriculum to the outdoors.

The Children

There are currently 294 children on roll which includes 26 FTE Nursery pupils.  The school serves a mixed catchment area of private rented, privately owned and Local Authority housing.  Our free school meals percentage varies from year-to-year  within the range of 11%-20%.

On leaving Reignhead our Year 6 children are allocated places at Westfield Secondary School in Beighton village

 Governors

The Reignhead Governing Body are supportive and interested in the day to day running of the School.  A large number of Governors are parents, not always as Parent Representatives.  Sub-committees for Staffing and Curriculum, Premises and Site, Finance and Pupil Development meet regularly to discuss specific items.

Parents

The school enjoys the active support of a large number of parents.  Opportunities for parents to work in school are created and valued by all staff.  Termly curriculum meetings keep parents well informed of what their children are learning each term.
